Lancaster County approves $1.09 million juvenile services grant amid funding cut

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners voted May 26 to accept a community-based juvenile service aid enhancement grant of $1,091,224 to support juvenile diversion programs and community partners.
Leslie Arons of Lincoln Lancaster County Human Services told the board, “This is a grant that we receive every year to help, fund our juvenile programs and diversion.” Arons said the award funds many community partners who augment the county’s diversion work and that the amount is smaller than in prior years.
Arons described the funding as state money that “passes through the Crime Commission,” and staff noted the county has seen a significant cut in community-based aid and juvenile services compared with past awards. Commissioners asked how the dollar amount compared to earlier years; Arons confirmed it is lower and said staff would provide additional detail if needed.
The board approved the grant agreement by roll call vote. The funding will be used to support diversion services and partner organizations; staff did not provide a multi-year funding commitment and noted the county’s allocation is contingent on the grant process and available state funds.
