BRANFORD, Conn. — The Branford Board of Education voted unanimously on April 22 to adopt a grade 5 mathematics textbook for Walsh Intermediate School and to approve several policy actions and a student-event donation.
The board approved the consent agenda (motion Laich/DeLucia), which included the Second Reading of Policy 5025 (Student Records/FERPA), Policy 5800 (Student Discipline), and the adoption of the WIS grade 5 Think! Mathematics program for the 2026–27 school year. Donna Laich, reporting from the Teaching & Learning Committee, said the committee voted unanimously to forward the recommendation after a committee presentation involving district staff.
On a separate motion (Henry/Hally), members approved amended language to Policy 4750 (Social Media) and Policy 6400 (Curricular Exemptions) on their First Reading. The board indicated the grades 6–8 mathematics team will continue piloting materials and will return with recommendations in the fall of 2026.
The board approved a $2,500 donation request for Project Graduation (motion Hally/Laich), funding that the board recorded as approved unanimously. Members also heard routine board reports and a superintendent update that noted a $720,000 reduction by the Board of Finance, of which $420,000 will be moved into a transportation fund and $300,000 remains to be determined at upcoming RTM budget deliberations.
Separately, the board voted unanimously to enter executive session to receive counsel recommendations on transportation contract amendments; the session began at 7:20 PM and ended with the board returning to open session at 8:13 PM with no votes or actions reported publicly.
The BOE listed multiple upcoming committee meetings in May and a full regular meeting on May 27, 2026.
