Superintendent updates board on curriculum supplements, K–2 gains and food-service vendor transition
Summary

Curriculum: The district will continue to use Illustrative Math as its core math curriculum and supplement below-grade instruction with Walsh Publishing's Power Basics materials for students needing scaled-down instruction. Staff described the supplement as useful for credit recovery and for students whose skill sets need targeted practice.
SEL and other resources: The district will use a "Changing Perspectives" SEL supplement at the high-school level to support social-emotional learning goals; staff said smaller tools such as Kelso's Choices and Zones of Regulation remain in use at earlier grade levels.
Benchmark data: Curriculum staff highlighted spring benchmark gains at the K–2 level. "They decreased the percentage of students in intensive (tier 3) by 8% and increased those at or above benchmark by 8%," an administrator reported, attributing the gains to improved data usage and intervention strategies. Staff cautioned that sustaining gains requires continued intervention capacity as students move to higher grades.
Food service: Administrators reported that Sodexo will be replaced by a new food-service manager identified in the meeting as SFE (referred to as Southwest Foods). Transition staff will meet with kitchen employees, review menus and help set meal pricing; the vendor contract is with the State of Montana and is awaiting signing.
Trustees asked for coordination on meal pricing and noted the importance of staff involvement during the transition. No dollar amounts for the contract or meal-price changes were provided during the briefing.
