Three trustees sworn in; board elects chair and vice chair

The Laurel School District Board of Trustees administered the oath of office to three new trustees and reorganized its leadership during its regular meeting.

Chair (speaking as the meeting presider) introduced and administered the oath to new trustees Raylan Meisner, Vanessa Lawrence Long and Noel Hop, who signed official documents and received onboarding information. "It's all official now," the presiding trustee said after the signatures were completed.

The board then opened nominations for board chair. With no competing nominations, trustee Chris LaRoche was nominated and elected by voice vote. A single nomination for vice chair — Jennifer (Jenny) Jones — was likewise approved by voice vote. The board also certified the appointment of Crystal Gomez as district clerk and approved her by unanimous voice vote.

The reorganization followed standard annual practice; the chair read Robert's Rules guidance and explained the nomination and voting process for the newly seated trustees. Staff reminded new trustees about official district email accounts and device options and noted that future communications will be on school email only.

The board moved quickly through reorganization after the oath, saying the process is an annual step as the board membership changes.

The meeting continued onto routine business and action items following the reorganization.
