The University of Maine System Board of Trustees voted unanimously to authorize Chair Kates to negotiate a final extension of Chancellor Malloy’s contract to June 30, 2028, at a meeting in which trustees earlier entered an executive session to discuss personnel matters.
Chair Kates read the resolution aloud, saying the board would authorize the chair “to negotiate a final extension of Chancellor Malloy’s contract to 06/30/2028, at which time his tenure as chancellor will end.” The resolution was moved by Trustee Flood and seconded by Trustee Kane.
The vote was conducted by roll call; trustees recorded as voting in the affirmative included Trustee Kates, Trustee Baldacci, Trustee Kane, Trustee Flood, Trustee Michaud, Trustee Riley, Trustee Alexander, Trustee Loring, Trustee Moore, Trustee Martin, Trustee McMahon, Trustee Worth and Trustee Eames. The chair stated that the motion carried.
Earlier in the meeting the board voted to move into executive session under the statutory authority cited by the chair as 1 MRSA section 405(6)(A) to discuss the evaluation of personnel and the consideration of appointments, evaluations, employment and duties. Trustee Michaud moved that motion and Trustee Alexander seconded; a roll-call vote was taken and the board entered executive session.
The actions taken at the meeting were procedural and pertain to internal personnel and contract negotiations. The resolution authorizes the chair to negotiate an extension; it does not itself finalize terms or the duration beyond the stated potential end date of June 30, 2028.
With no further business raised "for the good of the order," Chair Kates declared the meeting adjourned.
