County recorder candidate urges Winona County to shore up records security

Bob Ameneck, who introduced himself to the board as a candidate for county recorder, told commissioners he has experience helping counties recover after cyberattacks and urged Winona County to strengthen record security and to encourage public enrollment in fraud-notification services.
"I would, with your help, like to improve and strengthen our record security and also encourage the public to sign up for possible fraud notification," Ameneck said, describing prior work assisting counties after cyber incidents.
Ameneck said he has given presentations and training to new recorders and believes public awareness is important because communications from multiple government levels warn of increasing cyberattack risk. The board thanked him for his comments and moved on to the consent agenda.
