Council approves vacation of 10-foot public utility easement for Lot 55 in Mahogany Ridge

The North Logan City Council on May 20 approved an ordinance to vacate a 10-foot public utility easement (PUE) along the east rear lot line of Lot 55 in the Mahogany Ridge subdivision.
City planner Aaron told the council the easement is unused and that there are no utilities located on the east side of the lot; the owners seek the easement so they can use the area for landscaping and other private purposes. "They wanna get rid of that 10 foot public utility easement there on the east portion of their drive of their lot so they can utilize the entirety of their lot there for landscaping and various other purposes," Aaron said.
Staff and council members said the surrounding open space limits future utility needs on that strip and leaves other areas available if utilities are required. Alan, speaking for city staff, said the PUE is "pretty cut and dry" because there is a large amount of undevelopable open space nearby and the city can use other spaces for utilities in the future.
With no public comments during the hearing, Councilmember Kenny Reese moved to approve vacating the east-side PUE for Lot 55 at 3450 North / 1930 East; Emily seconded. The council approved the motion by voice vote.
Next steps: the city will finalize the ordinance language and record the easement vacation in the public record.
