Du Bois approves consolidated waste-management agreement; company to provide local account support

The Du Bois City Council approved an addendum to consolidate refuse and recycling contracts with Waste Management, carrying forward the best terms from the prior municipal agreements and extending contract coverage to the city through March 31, 2028.
A Waste Management representative described the consolidation as merging the two prior contracts’ best provisions and said the agreement increases residential services (container options and continued monthly cleanups) and adds an annual or on-request document-destruction program. Commercial extra-yardage charges were clarified at a flat $20 per cubic yard, and the company said it will provide local account managers and a city-specific WM web page to improve customer service.
Councilors pressed the company on past resident complaints and asked whether local operational support would be provided; the Waste Management representative said local staff and a Du Bois office would handle customer contacts, and offered to appear quarterly for the first year to address issues. The addendum passed by voice vote.
The council asked staff to coordinate implementation details such as container distribution and the schedule for transferring billing and administrative tasks into the city’s systems.
