Mayor Cassetti and city staff gave the board a multi‑department update covering flood response, the WPCA (sewer treatment plant) sale, remediation work on Olson Drive, and park improvements.
The mayor noted the city closed flood walls for the first time in over 50 years following recent flooding and thanked emergency responders. Corporation Counsel John Marini told the board staff are working toward a December closing on the WPCA sale and emphasized that there will be no billing changes until closing; residents who have paid both installments should have no additional bills until the sale is final.
Economic development director Sheila O’Malley said Enviro Consultants has begun test pits and soil characterization work at Olson Drive, with large debris piles to be screened and removed in the coming weeks. She also said the bid package for Gaddison Park phase 1 (playscape and rubberized surface) will go out next week and that longer‑term security and aesthetic improvements are being planned in coordination with a previously approved bonding package.
Finance Director Kurt Miller reported the city expects to close a $6,100,000 borrowing package with Webster Bank for the first phase of the CIP and that FY2024 audit work is underway with completion expected by mid‑December. Miller also reviewed a funding request from the Ansonia Soccer Club and recommended the board approve a $4,000 municipal allocation as reflected in the club’s budget submission.
What comes next: Staff said they will issue public communications (web posts and robocalls) about the WPCA timeline, proceed with testing and cleanup at Olson Drive and release the Gaddison Park bid package next week.
