Council backs Beechnet Homes housing project in tax-credit application; measure passes 4-1

The Cascade City Council on Tuesday approved Resolution 306, expressing additional support for the Cascade Beechnet Homes single-family housing development and requesting inclusion of the project in an application for Iowa workforce housing tax credits. The resolution also notes that, if a grant is awarded, city fees for that project may be waived for that specific development.
Councilmember Delaney moved the resolution; roll call votes recorded four Ayes and one Nay (Hush). "Is there any questions on this?" the presiding official asked before the vote; no substantive changes were proposed during the council discussion.
Council members said the fee waiver language applies only to the specific project if a grant is obtained; the resolution and supporting materials were briefed as part of routine agenda items. The resolution passed with recorded votes of Raker (Aye), Weber (Aye), Hush (Nay), Gale (Aye) and Delaney (Aye).
The resolution is intended to strengthen the project's application to secure workforce housing tax credits from the Iowa Economic Development authority; the council did not take further action beyond adoption at Tuesday's meeting.
