The Borough of Westwood Historic Preservation Commission’s published Jan. 15, 2026 agenda lists several active designation projects and a longer roster of candidate sites the commission may pursue for historic designation.
Among projects identified as "in progress" are the Westwood Trust Building (the former Bank of America building at the corner of Westwood Avenue and Broadway, Lot 9, Block 907), Veteran’s Memorial Park and its bandstand and landscape, and the Pascack Movie Theater. The agenda specifically records those three sites as active designation projects for commission consideration.
The agenda also compiles a list of future candidates that the commission may evaluate, including Conrad’s Confectionery; the Diner (current site of 1950s Originals); Fireman’s Memorial Park; the Westwood Library at 49 Park Ave; Grace Episcopal Church on Kinderkamack Road; Berkeley Elementary School; the Volz Hardware building (now a real estate office); and the 19/25 Boulevard (Bogert Built Furniture/office building). The agenda provides these names as possible next steps rather than final determinations.
The commission materials reference procedures for designation, including Article XXIII, Section 195-179 of the Code of the Borough of Westwood, and schedule a February meeting that will include training on designation steps. No formal votes or final designations appear on the Jan. 15 agenda; items are listed for further review and action at subsequent meetings.
The commission’s next scheduled meeting is Feb. 19, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Westwood Borough Hall.
