"We chose magnolia trees for the front, a purple leaf plum, and a silk dogwood," Feldman said, adding that the magnolias were selected to be flowering, low-growing trees expected to reach about 20 feet at maturity. He also noted Weymouth has been recognized as a Tree City USA community for the 27th consecutive year.
Mayor Hedlund also announced that the town's annual cleanup day was moved to May 3 because of forecasted weather and that Memorial Day ceremonies would be consolidated at the Ralph Talbot Amphitheater this year; the mayor invited residents to attend the Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. The mayor described the amphitheater improvements, including a new rear wall near Abigail Adams School and recognition elements for the town's "Bridal of Honor" recipients.
Council President Mike Melisse offered brief closing remarks, congratulating residents on the town tradition of distributing saplings and noting many recipients reported those saplings have grown into substantial trees.
