Resident who was struck urges Greenburgh to prioritize Taxter Road sidewalk

At the Sept. 11 meeting, Sebastian Sage told the Greenburgh Town Board he was struck by a car when he was 10 or 11 and urged the town to install a sidewalk on Taxter Road to protect children and other pedestrians.
"I think it's crucial to have a sidewalk installed because there are many blind spots," Sage said, describing the area as dangerous for kids and saying sidewalks would allow children to enjoy outdoor activities more safely.
The supervisor responded that funding for a Taxter Road sidewalk is in place and that town staff (including planning and engineering) are designing the project; the supervisor said construction could be toward the end of next year but cautioned that engineering, underground utilities and possible property takings may delay work.
Town staff emphasized that safe sidewalk construction requires thorough engineering, not simply paving, and said survey and utility reviews could affect the schedule. The board said it will continue to prioritize pedestrian safety projects across the town.
