Aurora council approves consent agenda, special events and moves to closed session

The Aurora City Council on Sept. 9 approved a slate of routine items and event permits, swore in new fire personnel and voted to go into closed session under Missouri’s open-meetings exception.
The council approved the consent agenda, which covered the Aug. 26 regular-session minutes and appropriations; the motion passed and Councilman McPherson recorded an abstention, noting he was not present at the earlier meeting. The council also approved special-event permits presented by staff: Spooktacular (Oct. 31, proposed street closures on Madison and a request for police protection), a private birthday at Crosby Park (Oct. 4), and a Fish and Chips fundraiser at the police and fire station (Oct. 11). Staff recommended approval for each permit.
The meeting included ceremonial oaths for new firefighter Drake Meyer and Captain Harley Stice; both affirmed their oaths to uphold the U.S. and Missouri constitutions and to serve the Aurora community. Later in the session the council voted to enter closed session citing RSMo 610.021 (items 1, 3 and 13); a roll-call vote was recorded in favor of entering closed session.
Actions taken at the meeting were procedural or routine approvals. No fiscal amounts tied to the event permits were discussed in the public record during the motions; staff will continue to administer permits and event logistics under existing procedures.
