East Fishkill board approves series of hires, bids and surplus actions including police promotion and culvert repair

At its June 26 meeting the East Fishkill Town Board approved several routine personnel and procurement items.

Personnel and hires: The board appointed police officer David Capparino to police sergeant to fill a vacant position, with salary terms per the PBA contract. The board also approved hiring Alex Zhu as a summer intern for clinical functions and acknowledged a seasonal recreation laborer hire. On a floor addition the board approved hiring Mike Brown as a short-term seasonal inspector for the Hopewell West Water District improvements at a stated rate of $60 an hour, contingent on completing pre-employment requirements.

Procurement and assets: Council approved declaring specified town property surplus and authorizing auction (items listed in the meeting included a 2004 Ford dump/plow/sander, bucket truck body, truck parts and a bucket hi ranger). Councilwoman Flores moved and the board approved awarding the Laura Lane emergency culvert repair contract to B & K Construction for $75,330; the highway superintendent said work was expected to begin July 7 and take about a week.

Roads and asset management: The board authorized a two-year contract with Pavement Management Group for roads-condition management not to exceed $67,000; members said the system’s video and condition data will help prioritize paving and improve transparency. The town also authorized the town engineer to prepare a map, plan and report for the Old Hopewell Water & Sewer District to support future grant applications.

All of the items above passed on voice votes during the meeting.
