The Woodford County Fiscal Court approved a package of routine but substantive items at its meeting, including community event permits, intergovernmental agreements, grant acceptances and procurement authorizations, and directed the county attorney to draft a zoning ordinance for formal review.
Events and community items: The court unanimously approved a Run for DC fundraiser for Simmons Elementary on Sept. 19, 2026. Kendra, the Simmons organizer, described the route and said the race is open to the community; she told the court, “Last year, we raised $13,325,” noting funds reduce trip costs for families. The court asked about traffic control for safety and received assurances that traffic control will be in place primarily across Falling Springs.
Agreements and grants: The court approved a five-year memorandum of agreement with KCTCS to allow student use of Woodford EMS facilities and authorized the judge executive to sign any related documents. Judge Executive Kaye also asked for and received approval to allow an email-based recommendation/approval process for selecting a proposal from received RFPs for an emergency logistics facility; that motion carried unanimously.
Solid waste actions: Joe Gerard of Solid Waste & Recycling outlined plans for advertising and bid packages for the household hazardous waste event and said the county will seek a $4,000 state Waste Hire grant. The court approved the household hazardous waste management grant agreement for FY 26–27 and gave the county permission to begin advertising and the bid process. The court also approved the FY 26–27 waste tire grant agreement and accepted a multi-department electronics surplus list for disposal at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center.
Other routine fiscal business: The court approved bills to be paid without objection, ratified a May 14, 2026 email approval for sheriff's stockyard and PNC claims, approved transfers presented, and approved an amended personnel order (with a name correction to August Spencer). The court also approved supplemental letter of agreement No. 3 for the Big Sink sidewalk project.
Land use direction: On a separate agenda item, the court directed county counsel to draft Ordinance 2026-05, a zoning map amendment request by Liftoff Equestrian for property at 2108 Huntertown Road proposing a downzoning from rural residential to A-1; the court voted to authorize the county attorney to prepare the ordinance packet for magistrates ahead of the next meeting.
