Temecula council unanimously directs staff to oppose SDG&E's preliminary Golden Pacific Powerlink corridor

Temecula's council voted unanimously on May 26 to oppose the preliminary San Diego Gas & Electric Golden Pacific Powerlink alignment that, as presented, follows Temecula Creek through the city.
The directive asks the city manager to: prepare a formal resolution of opposition; request additional information and alternative maps from CAISO/SDG&E; coordinate technical reviews and legal options with county and tribal partners; and return to council with proposed next steps. The action followed a lengthy staff briefing and presentations by CAISO and SDG&E, plus more than 100 public speakers expressing concerns about wildfire risk, view-shed impacts, cultural resources and property values.
The resolution motion passed 5-0; the council also asked staff to compile scientific and regulatory materials to submit during CPUC/CEQA and federal NEPA review processes so Temecula's objections are on the record in future proceedings.
Next steps: City staff will draft the resolution language, share it with council and return with recommendations for technical studies and potential legal strategies. The CPUC remains the permitting authority for transmission routing and the city will continue outreach and coordination with county, tribal and regional stakeholders.
