Marriott-Slaterville City Council unanimously voted April 16 to reconsider and table a residential development and subdivision plan for 2700/2800 West 1200 South, asking the Planning Commission to clarify language on rental-unit limits and evaluate traffic and safety concerns.
Councilman Rob Smout moved to reconsider Ordinance 2026-05 and Dee Christoffersen seconded; the motion passed unanimously. During the reconsideration discussion, the council record notes the homeowners association language would limit rentals to a maximum of 30 units out of the proposed 195 units, and the developer described changes made to that paragraph over the prior month.
Council members including Smout, Christoffersen and Will Holley raised concerns about confusion in how the rental limits were written and the broader implications for neighborhood character. Holley also flagged potential traffic and safety impacts if sidewalks are not provided in the project area.
Resident Christine Grant addressed the council during the discussion and said she was concerned about increased traffic and safety on local roads that lack sidewalks.
Vice President Brad Slater reminded the audience the meeting segment was not a public hearing and moved to table the matter and send the proposal back to the Planning Commission for comment on resolving the rental-unit issue; the motion, seconded by Holley, passed unanimously.
Next steps: the council has referred the project to the Planning Commission for review of the rental-language and related traffic/safety items; no final council action on the development was taken at the April 16 meeting.
