Chester presents Albert Johnson with citation after he is named 2026 Pennsylvania Youth of the Year

Mayor Stefan Roods and council presented a citation May 27 recognizing Albert Johnson as the 2026 Pennsylvania Youth of the Year, an honor from the Boys & Girls Club of America that highlights leadership and service. The mayor read the citation noting Johnson’s 12 years with the Boys & Girls Club, academic achievement and plans to attend Widener University this fall.
Johnson, a graduating high-school senior who said he was "born and raised" in Chester, told the council he would represent Chester at the Northeast regional competition in New York City and hopes to advance to nationals. "I'm gonna take it home," he said, adding that he wants to give back to his community.
Council and staff invited Boys & Girls Club staff to join Johnson for a photo and highlighted the organization’s role in mentoring young people. The mayor called Johnson’s recognition “a shining example of the talent, promise, and potential that exist within our young people.”
What’s next: Johnson will attend regional competition and, if successful, could advance to the national Youth of the Year contest; no city action or funding was recorded as part of the citation.
