The Dickenson County Board of Supervisors adopted bylaws establishing a tourism advisory committee and approved a large list of appointments to regional and local commissions.
County staff said the tourism committee structure will include municipal representatives from each incorporated town (Clinchco, Clintwood, Hayside), a representative from Breaks Interstate Park leadership, two representatives from major tourism attractions, two representatives from tourism‑related private sector businesses (lodging, food service, retail, or guiding services), and at‑large members appointed by the board to ensure balanced representation. Staff recommended staggered three‑year terms and a random draw for initial staggered terms so not all members roll off at once.
The board approved the committee structure and bylaws. Members nominated and approved for the initial committee roster included Jolene Mott (or alternate Dylan Dooley), Danny Lambert (alternate Doris Roff), Larry Yates (alternate Debbie Wood), Austin Bradley, Sarah Phillips, Melinda Edwards, Jason Deal, Jaren Owens, Kelly Rose, Vicky Barton, Dana Cronkite and Sabrina Stanley. The board also handled multiple other appointments at this meeting: Larry Barton and Casey Newsome for the Bristol Transportation District Regional Improvement Commission; reappointments to the Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission; reappointments to the Industrial Development Authority and the Southwest Regional Recreation Authority; a reappointment to Southwest Virginia Beautiful; and reappointment of Scotty Owens to Southwest Virginia Community Corrections.
The board also rescinded a previous appointment of Truman Mullins to the Cameron Plateau Regional Housing Authority after staff determined he is no longer a Dickenson County resident; the board then appointed Sabrina Stanley to fill that seat.
Board members voted sequentially on nominations and approved the slate by voice votes. County staff said they will randomize initial terms to stagger expiration dates.
