The Danville Center Township Fire Territory executive board gave consensus to pursue a lease-purchase for a new ladder truck and began planning for a possible station relocation.
Gary Schwartz outlined the procurement plan, saying the vendor estimated a 13-month build time and that the territory would not make any payments until one year after delivery. "We will not make a payment until 1 year after delivery," Schwartz said, adding that the lease includes a dollar buyout at the end of the term.
The chief of finance outlined the territory's equipment replacement fund at an estimated $435,000 per year and said the territory will assume a $76,000-a-year medic payment from the township for five years. Schwartz noted a $30,000 contingency for tools and related equipment on the truck.
Board members discussed financing options and the effect on future budgets. One committee member said the seven-year payment option seemed aggressive and urged caution about carrying debt for too long; Schwartz replied that incentives and payment deferral make the 10-year baseline a prudent approach.
Separately, Schwartz said the territory will ask the council to purchase land to move Station 192 and that architectural plans already exist. He said the territory is preparing numbers so it can, if needed, bond for a new firehouse and “get it all at once” including placing an engine in the new station.
The board did not take a formal binding vote on the purchase; members recorded consensus to proceed to the next steps and asked staff to return with final numbers and a contract-ready proposal.
