Because the department is currently down two engines for maintenance and accident damage, staff said the department is renting a replacement apparatus at about $5,000 per month to maintain minimum coverage while repairs proceed; staff estimated a two‑ to three‑month repair timeline for the primary engine.
Council approved the budget amendment after staff said finance had identified internal budget sources (salaries turnover and other line‑item savings) to cover the expense. Staff said they solicited multiple quotes and selected a local vendor for the work.
