At its June meetings the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners approved several routine agreements and appointments by unanimous vote and scheduled several procurement decisions for a July meeting.
Employee insurance renewal: At the June 4 regular meeting the commission approved the county’s employee insurance renewal. Commissioner Jason Frost moved to accept the new fee schedule; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous of members present.
Georgia Forestry / Fire tower agreement: The board approved a resolution authorizing a Fire Tower Agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission for July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025. The contract lists the county’s maximum payment for the contract period as $4,738.58 and calls for Forestry to provide a temporary fire‑tower operator. The forestry resolution was authorized by the chairman.
Reappointments: The commission reappointed Timothy Biddle and Gerald Douglas to the Lower Chattahoochee Regional Transportation Authority (LRCTA). The resolution reappointing Biddle sets his term through June 30, 2028; Douglas’s reappointment runs through June 30, 2026.
GA Highway 520 roundabout grant: Commissioners approved acceptance of a grant for a roundabout on GA‑520 that requires utility relocation costs and a 40/60 match arrangement; the county stated it will not pay more than $52,000 if relocation costs are required.
Solid‑waste bids: During the June 24 work session staff reviewed three solid‑waste proposals and recommended awarding the contract at the July meeting. Bids reviewed included GFL ($20.00/month plus $5 per tire), Jones Sanitation ($23.50/month) and Zero Waste ($25.52/month). Commissioners discussed options for cardboard compaction and resale.
What’s next: Solid‑waste contract award and any budget amendments will be considered at the July regular meeting; department heads will present supporting justification for any requested spending increases.
