Council delays decision on Barton Hollow's request to allow self‑storage near Highway 651

Developers seeking a major change to the Barton Hollow plan development asked council Sept. 12 to allow a self‑storage facility in the project's commercial portion along Highway 651. Applicant Wesley White (Bridgewater Engineering & Surveying) explained that the storage parcel is roughly an acre after setbacks and that the request would reduce the front setback from 35 feet to 25 feet to move the building 10 feet closer to the road while eliminating on‑site drive aisles or parking on the roadside and increasing landscaping to screen the facility from Highway 651 and neighboring residences.
Council members questioned buffering, visual impacts and the precedent of adding storage to the list of permitted uses. One member said the change "adds to the list" of C‑2 uses rather than curating permitted uses as in a planned development. After discussion, council voted to postpone the major change to October to allow additional review and applicant follow‑up; the motion carried by voice vote (recorded in the transcript as 5–1).
