Assistant City Administrator Slaton told council the ordinance adds $18,700 for a live‑scan fingerprint system to allow officers to electronically capture fingerprints instead of relying on ink cards, and it includes an additional $50,000 to enhance downtown Christmas decorations. The amendment also appropriates funds tied to planned conversions of a former public‑works parcel into a downtown parking lot; staff estimates roughly 61 additional parking spaces will be provided with room to expand.
Council members thanked staff for compiling the amendment and discussed parking design details, including whether provisions for golf‑cart parking will be formalized during later public‑works design. The ordinance passed on second and final reading by voice vote.
In related business, council approved a separate annexation and zoning (Millican Drive to C‑2) for a small parcel intended for a pediatric dentistry/orthodontic office and adopted a resolution to apply for a $25,000 Hometown Economic Development Grant (with a required $3,750 local match) to support Trade Street pedestrian plaza upgrades.
