Public Works committee recommends $35,700 sewer repair contract after televised inspection finds cracked main

Mike Meyer, utility manager, described the inspection and the problem location behind Ace Hardware and Subway, where two damaged sections — totaling roughly 600 feet — are allowing material to fall into the line and collect at a downstream 90-degree bend. Staff recommended ‘‘cured-in-place’’ pipe rehabilitation, a trenchless technique staff said offers roughly a 50-year service life and avoids excavation.
Committee member John made a motion recommending that the Public Works Committee, acting as water utility board, recommend approval of an agreement with Visu Sewer LLC for sanitary sewer rehabilitation in an amount not to exceed $35,700; Alder Myers seconded. After brief questions about cause and scope, the committee approved the recommendation to send to Finance & Personnel and Common Council.
What’s next: The agreement will proceed to Finance & Personnel and Common Council for final approval; staff said the work would be scheduled as soon as approvals are in place so the repair could be completed this summer.
