Richardson County commissioners approve courthouse carpeting, deny one small claim under state law

FALLS CITY, Neb. — The Richardson County Board of Commissioners on May 13 approved a quote to replace carpeting in the County Assessor’s Office and cleared the bulk of its bills for payment while denying a single small claim under state law.
Chairman John Caverzagie called the regular meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Commissioners Karas and Campbell were present. After routine invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the board unanimously approved the minutes of the May 6 meeting and the day’s agenda.
Commissioner Campbell moved to accept a bid from Jim Hill’s to replace carpeting in the County Assessor’s Office for $3,159.00. The motion, seconded by Vice-Chairman Karas, carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
On claims, Commissioner Campbell moved to pay a held claim to Richardson County EMA Petty Cash for $61.24, to deny a held claim submitted by Bethany Godemann for $33.98 pursuant to Nebraska Revised Statute 13-2203, and to allow payment of the remaining claims submitted that day. The motion passed 3-0 on a roll-call vote.
The meeting record lists the total General Fund claims at $195,955.24, including payroll and vendor invoices, and Road & Bridge Fund claims at $108,317.24. Line items include payments to Martin Marietta Materials and GWorks among others; the printed claims were made available for public inspection at the County Clerk’s office.
Commissioner Campbell also presented a proposal from ServPro dated April 20, 2026, for restoration work at the courthouse totaling $7,353.97; the transcript records the presentation but does not show board action on that proposal during this session.
The board was informed by the County Treasurer that the county’s SAM (System for Award Management) renewal is approaching and that the county’s SAM number is 7NRH6.
A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Campbell at 9:28 a.m., seconded by Karas, and approved unanimously. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Meeting Room at the Richardson County Courthouse.
