PowerOn Midwest transmission project outlines 2032–2034 in-service window; open house set for June 2 in Pipestone

Representatives of the PowerOn Midwest utility team briefed the Pipestone County Board on May 12 about a proposed high‑voltage transmission project and announced a local public open house.
Tim Rogers and Anna Thill, speaking for a utility team representing Great River Energy, ITC and Xcel Energy, presented an overview of the PowerOn Midwest Project, describing a proposed 765 kilovolt transmission corridor that would run from northeastern South Dakota through southwest, southern and southeastern Minnesota. They said the project aims to enable access to dispersed renewable energy and to integrate ‘‘always-ready’’ natural gas plants and other technologies meant to ensure reliability. Presenters gave an anticipated in‑service window of 2032 to 2034 and said short-term public outreach meetings will be held.
The presenters announced a June 2, 2026 public open house at Saint Leo Catholic Church, 415 S. Hiawatha in Pipestone, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and directed interested residents to PowerOnMidwest.com for further information. Commissioners thanked the presenters for the informational briefing; no board action was taken at the meeting.
