County engineer reports overlays underway and local maintenance work; Highway Dept. to assist BNSF crossings

Nick Bergman, Pipestone County engineer, updated the Board on county road projects and maintenance during the May 12 meeting.
Bergman said multiple 2026 overlay projects (including SAP 059-601-039; SAP 059-617-019; SAP 059-647-002; SAP 059-659-003) are underway. He reported milling is complete on those sections and paving began May 6, 2026. He also told the board that BNSF Railway will perform grade-crossing repairs in several county locations this summer and is requesting assistance with traffic control signs and barricades; Bergman said the Highway Department will provide help as requested.
Bergman noted crews have been working on patching County Road 56 near Casey’s South and the Kwik Trip in Pipestone, and that routine maintenance crews are graveling roads and performing crack sealing. When Commissioner Dallas Roskamp asked who would repair County Road 9 by Edgerton Public School, Bergman said the contractor for the school project is responsible for that repair. Bergman also referenced a pre-construction meeting last week for the Safe Routes to School project.
The commissioners thanked Bergman for the report; no board action was required beyond agreeing to provide traffic-control assistance to the railroad when requested.
