Smyth County Planning Commission elects officers, adopts procedures and 2026 calendar

The Smyth County Planning Commission on Jan. 22 completed organizational business for 2026, electing officers, adopting procedures and confirming a meeting calendar.
Commissioners present unanimously approved the meeting agenda and then completed officer elections: Hazel Wagoner was nominated and confirmed as Chair for 2026; Graham Davidson Jr. was nominated and recorded in the Vice-Chair vote (one abstention recorded for Davidson Jr. in that tally); Kelsey Marchant was nominated and elected Clerk for 2026. The commission adopted operating procedures on a motion by David C. Buchanan Jr. and approved the 2025 annual report after Zoning Administrator Becca Creasy outlined goals for 2026, including greater coordination with the Economic Development Authority.
Members voted to meet on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. (time to be set by the Clerk), with tentative alternate dates for November (Dec. 12 listed tentatively as the 12th) and December (tentatively the 10th) due to holidays. The commission also appointed members to the Ordinance Committee for the year.
