At its Feb. 26 meeting the Smyth County Planning Commission approved a site development plan submitted by property owner Lawrence Ray to make two former manufactured-home sites behind 572 St. Clairs Creek Road in Chilhowie available for lease to tenants who would own their own homes.
Ray told commissioners the homes would be single-wide units and that he was waiting for required approvals before advertising the sites. He said the two sites had earlier contained manufactured homes that were removed and that he intends to lease only the lots. Staff noted VDOT had issued an entrance-permit approval and the Health Department confirmed the existing septic system can serve two residences.
Lea Meadows moved to approve the site development plan; the motion was seconded by Graham Davidson Jr. and the commission approved it unanimously.
Zoning Administrator Becca Creasy also reported that, following the commission's earlier recommendation, the Board of Supervisors approved adding communication towers to the C/R zoning district subject to a special-use permit and approved a special-use permit for Brian Creggeas to expand his kennel.
