During new business, members agreed to add discussion of a potential smoking ordinance in parks to the next meeting agenda and to invite a representative from the health department for a presentation.
A committee member referenced the relevant code when discussing where smoking might be prohibited: “article 2 section 50 of the city ordinances under park regulations list out a bunch of things that aren't allowed in parks,” and members said they would include materials on that Article for the next packet.
A committee member also reported the Lucy Morris sign has been removed from Nathan Strong Park for refurbishment and is not destroyed; Fortify Bank volunteers will refurbish the sign stands, and the Berlin Historical Society is overseeing the work. Members asked that staff be prepared to answer public inquiries while the sign is away.
Next steps: staff will add the smoking-ordinance discussion to the next agenda and attempt to secure contact information for speakers or a health-department representative to present; staff will also note the sign refurbishment in public-facing responses.
