Council approves minutes and consent agenda; residents press for Heritage Days park access

The Saint Paul Park City Council on Feb. 2 approved minutes from the Jan. 5 meeting and the consent agenda, which included paying bills through Feb. 3, approving a special-event permit for the Lions Winterfest, a new business license for 3D Print Works LLC, and a proposed partnership with the St. Paul Farmer's Market to explore a new market in the city.
Council member Swanson moved to approve the consent agenda; after a brief exchange about Farmer's Market participation and Winterfest event signups the motion carried 5-0.
During the public-comment portion, Gary Lane, speaking for the Heritage Days committee, asked the council to consider cutting a roughly 20-foot gap through park berms at 13th and Lincoln and widening maintenance ramps at Heritage Park so vendors and residents could access the park more easily for Heritage Days, softball games, National Night Out and private rentals. "It's the only big park we have here in Saint Paul Park," Gary said, asking the city to make access easier for vendors and attendees.
Council members asked whether Gary had consulted Public Works; he said not yet and agreed to meet staff. Council directed staff to pass the request to Public Works and suggested bringing diagrams to the commission; Council member Hagerty invited Gary to the Public Works Commission meeting on March 3.
The council approved the minutes and consent agenda without recorded roll-call names (motion carries 5-0).
