Plum Borough School Board honors retirees and student performers at May meeting

The Plum Borough School Board used its May 26 meeting to recognize retiring staff and celebrate student achievements in music and performing arts.
Board member Speaker 4 read the list of retirees and invited several to the podium, thanking them for years of service across Plum Borough School District schools and transportation. "Karen brought energy, positivity, and dedication to her 11 years serving PLUM students and families," Speaker 4 said while presenting a recognition to a transportation staff member. The board also acknowledged long service from classroom teachers and support staff.
Performing arts director John Deluce (Speaker 13) and music teachers highlighted students who qualified for PMEA district, region and Allstate ensembles, and noted Gene Kelly Award nominations and two wins. Deluce said Plum students performed in 19 honors ensembles and that several advanced to regional and Allstate levels. Mrs. Loy (introduced by Deluce) and other staff read the names of honored students across elementary, middle and high school levels.
The board also recognized a visiting foreign exchange student introduced by Speaker 10. Ginevra Dolcini spoke about joining clubs, attending homecoming and plans to study psychology in Italy after returning home.
Outgoing student representative Naomi Casey, who announced she will attend Point Loma Nazarene University, gave a farewell speech reflecting on her board experience; board members welcomed incoming student representative Carrie Fair and presented her with the customary gift.
The board noted several community events and student successes ahead of graduation day on May 27, and encouraged public support for a senior, Tyler Brenner, who will represent the United States at the ball-hockey world championships in Slovakia.
