Aston approves architect fees, lease option, inspector appointment and grant submission as building projects advance

Commissioner McGinn moved and the board approved additional services from Bernardin (architect) for clerk‑of‑work and construction‑administration support for the new township building, not to exceed $197,600. The board also voted to exercise the one‑year lease option for the rented space at 1 & 2 New Road (which houses the police and administrative offices).
The board appointed Catania Engineering Associates Inc. as Aston Township’s building and code inspector and authorized the township solicitor to advertise proposed amendments to the stormwater management ordinance. Commissioner McGinn additionally moved that the township submit a multimodal transportation fund grant application to the PA Department of Community and Economic Development for Mount Road trail improvements (Resolution No. 2024‑84); the motion was approved.
Other business included approval of payment to Protege V for tree removal on Pentle Road in the amount of $34,478.30 and a $60 refund to a resident for an unused camp registration.
Why it matters: the votes advance the township’s building program and trail planning, set inspection and oversight contractors, and move a grant application forward that could fund local trail improvements. The Bernardin fee approval commits the township to additional construction oversight costs (capped by the motion).
