Megan (staff) described inconsistencies in one section of the cemetery: drone overlay maps produced discrepancies in stone placement and orientation, and some recent burials in the newer section lacked consistent documentation. "There wasn't consistency in where stones were placed... based on drone footage, there were so many discrepancies noted," Megan said, explaining the need for professional surveying to confirm plot locations.
Trustees and staff said accurate mapping will reduce the need for case‑by‑case research when scheduling burials and will help preserve family burial groupings. Village Manager White and trustees described the work as an appropriate step to establish reliable records and avoid future mistakes.
The motion to contract for surveying and ground‑penetrating radar passed unanimously. Staff indicated additional mapping work may follow for other sections of the cemetery as needed.
