Council gives first readings to public-records and water-rate ordinances; water hearing set for September

At its meeting the Linton City Council approved first readings of two ordinances: 2025-O4, which addresses public-records requests, and 2025-O5, which concerns municipal water rates. Council approved both first readings after motions and seconding of each item.
On the proposed water-rate ordinance, a council member asked that citizens be informed of the change. City staff (S10) said the city's financial advisers had conducted a rate study showing a need for an adjustment because cash balances are low, and that a public hearing on the water-rate order is scheduled for the September council meeting when the advisers will make a full presentation. S10 also clarified that "the sewage rate is a separate rate from the water rate," and that an increase to the water rate "does not affect the sewer rate at all." The sewer charge remains based on water usage, staff said.
Council did not take a final vote on either ordinance; both were approved only on first reading and will return for subsequent proceedings and the public hearing on water rates in September.
