Council approves timber-removal contract to clear tornado-damaged trees

The Linton City Council voted to approve a timber-sale and removal contract with Werner Sawmill, authorizing the company to remove tornado-damaged trees and lumber from the Buck Creek Muzzleloader area, the Boy Scout area and the Saddle Club. City staff said the contract was signed the day of the meeting and work is scheduled to begin this fall.
Council member (S5) moved to approve the contract and a second was received; the motion carried. During discussion a council member (S6) stressed the scope: "we are not logging out the old, boy scout camp, the muzzleloaders. It's just the damage from the tornado." That clarification was added to the contract language before the vote.
City staff described the action as a recovery and cleanup step following storm damage; no additional logging beyond identified damaged areas will be permitted under the contract. The contractor will mobilize in the autumn to complete the removals and associated site work.
