Lititz Borough swears in new mayor, elects council officers and reappoints key vendors

John George was sworn in as Lititz borough mayor at the Jan. 5 reorganization meeting, where council also elected its officers and reappointed key borough positions and vendors.
The ceremony opened at 7:00 p.m. at Council Chambers and on Zoom. Tim Snyder, the outgoing mayor, called the meeting to order and led the pledge; Snyder said he was "pleased to have served the Borough as Mayor for twelve years." The Honorable Michael George of the Court of Common Pleas administered the loyalty oath to John George, who took the gavel and immediately recognized Snyder’s service.
During nominations for council leadership, Brad Bergman moved and Meck seconded the nomination of Scott Hain for council president; Hain was elected unanimously. Tannia Carpenter was nominated and elected president pro‑tem after a motion by Mary Gattis and second by Meck. Carpenter moved, Bergman seconded, and Gattis was elected vice president unanimously. After the votes, Mayor John George yielded the gavel to President Scott Hain, who thanked new and former council members.
Council then completed a slate of reappointments for 2026. Elijah Yearick was reappointed borough secretary and Robert McFadden was reappointed borough treasurer. Entech Engineering was reappointed as the borough water/sewer engineer; Grove Miller Engineering as traffic engineer; Lancaster Civil Engineering as the borough civil engineer; and Barley Snyder as borough solicitor. David Miller Engineering was reappointed as the MS4 (municipal separate storm sewer system) consultant; the record shows President Scott Hain abstained from that vote because of an ownership stake in the company.
The council unanimously reappointed Duane Ober as borough emergency management coordinator and Justin Aucker as deputy emergency management coordinator. Lititz Fire Company was reappointed as the borough’s fire service and the 2026 fire‑services contract was executed as Agreement 580. Warwick Community Ambulance Association was reappointed as the borough’s emergency medical service and the 2026 ambulance contract was executed as Agreement 581.
President Hain acknowledged appointments made by the Warwick Emergency Services Commission naming Duane Ober as regional fire commissioner and Mike Smith as regional deputy fire commissioner. Hain also said subcommittee assignments would be finalized at the January council meeting and asked members to send preferences; Councilmember Mary Gattis suggested clarifying Council’s roles on committees, consolidating some committees (she proposed combining Streets & Traffic and Water & Sewer into a Public Works committee) and allowing staff to take the lead on many tasks; Meck voiced support for the proposal.
No members of the public offered comment. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. on a motion by Mary Gattis and a second by Meck.
Next steps: Council will finalize subcommittee assignments at the next regular meeting and staff will follow up on members’ committee preferences and any committee consolidation proposals.
