Lincoln High student praises staff, credits Sources of Strength program for support

Matthew Bennett, a student at Lincoln High School, told the meeting that smaller classes and supportive staff helped him succeed and that the Sources of Strength program taught him to "learn how I look at myself better."
Bennett introduced himself as a Lincoln student who was born in Wallowa, Washington and lives in College Place. He traced his schooling through Davis Elementary, Stager Middle School and a semester at College Place High School before transferring to Lincoln.
He said he appreciates Lincoln because "the classes are smaller and the teachers . . . try to help to understand how you learn better." Bennett singled out two staff members by first name, saying "Victoria is a wonderful person. She helped me get through this high school years," and that he participated last year in the Sources of Strength program with Shelly, calling it "a fun experience" that helped him "learn how I look at myself better."
Bennett offered a wider commendation: "I would just like to give a shout out to the whole Lincoln staff for helping me get through high school." He said his immediate plans are to "take a chill pill a little bit, getting a job, saving up money to eventually go to college." He closed by urging peers to "try your best" and wishing the Class of 2026 good luck.
