Board authorizes bridge deck overlay; low bids roughly match $350,000 budget

County Public Works staff described a deck overlay project (mill down about 1/2 to 1 inch) for a bridge south of town and said the work will use the county’s highway bridge program funds. The presenter said the county had programmed $350,000 for the project and that three bids came in very close to that figure; the low bid was reported at approximately $346,000 and the high bid around $353,000.
The resolution the board considered included authority to award the bid and to empower staff to complete DOT paperwork, process payments and finalize the contract once insurance and bonding were in order. The board discussed past experience with similar concrete overlay projects and voted to approve the resolution and to authorize staff to proceed with the DOT process.
Public Works representatives said the DOT allows up to a 10% increase for the work and that change orders are not expected; staff will finalize the contract documents and return to the county clerk for filing.
