Town staff presented Ordinance 12‑2025, a combined update to the property‑maintenance code and the establishment of a rental‑housing registration program. Officer Reinhardt described the effort as the town’s first rental program and said staff will use software to streamline citations, inspections and rental inspections.
"We're looking to... obtain some software to help us streamline," Reinhardt said, adding the system will aid citations and rental inspections and that staff corrected a grass‑height standard as part of the ordinance updates.
Under the proposal, the rental license program will be voluntary for residential units in its first year and transition toward enforcement thereafter. Council members said they welcome the change, noting a large number of apartments in town and previous instances where county oversight lacked timely enforcement. Officials said the ordinance will return for a second reading and further detail in the June meeting.
