Maple Valley council backs Druids Glen open-space letter and schedules housing study sessions

The Maple Valley City Council on May 11 directed staff to draft a letter to King County urging that Druids Glen Golf Course remain open space; the council approved the direction 6-0. Mayor Sean P. Kelly made the request and councilmembers voted to proceed with the letter.
Separately, the council approved two study sessions — June 1 and June 15 — to examine affordable housing strategy and to allow staff to prepare additional information. City Manager Laura Philpot introduced the proposal for the study sessions and Deputy Mayor Didem Pierson proposed formation of a housing task force for follow-up work.
Councilmembers said additional study and outreach will inform any future decisions about incentives or program changes. The study sessions are intended to provide staff briefings and to gather council direction on next steps. The city clerk recorded the meetings and scheduled public notice for the sessions.
