The San Ramon City Council on May 26 voted unanimously to authorize execution of a memorandum of understanding (Resolution No. 2026-067) with Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021 covering maintenance classifications.
Human-resources staff member Megan summarized the tentative agreement reached with SEIU membership and ratified on May 20. "We have proposed a four-year term," she said. "Salary ranges for those job positions would increase by 3% on July 1 of each year of the contract." She also described new differential pay for employees holding a commercial driver's license, clarification of the safety shoe program, and adjustments to alternate work-schedule language. The estimated fiscal impact is just over $860,000 over the contract term, with first-year costs of a little over $150,000 included in the FY27 budget.
Council members asked whether there had been past years with lower than 3% increases; staff replied that most recent contracts have averaged 3% or higher, with isolated exceptions in other bargaining units. Several council members thanked staff and the union for reaching an agreement before the contract expiration.
Vice Mayor Rubio moved adoption of Resolution No. 2026-067 and Council member Veroz seconded; the resolution passed unanimously.
What happens next: the city manager and human resources staff will implement the pay adjustments on the stated schedule and include the multi-year cost estimates in budget projections for subsequent years.
