Resident Ken Schwandner of 26 Canfield Court told the Board of Aldermen on March 16 that persistent blower noise from the Club Car Wash on Highway N prevents residents from enjoying their backyards and is affecting property values. He played a recording for the board and said two separate sound studies indicate the car wash remains out of compliance with city noise regulations despite a sound wall being installed.
City Administrator George Ertle acknowledged that sound-damping measures have been taken but confirmed the car wash remains non-compliant, as reported by the resident. Mayor Brian McKinney said he and city staff have scheduled another meeting with the car wash owners to discuss additional mitigation and options for addressing ongoing noise complaints.
The noise issue was raised during the public comment period and was not the subject of a formal enforcement vote at the March 16 meeting. The Board did, however, adopt an amendment to City Code Section 375.240 that updates the city's motor-vehicle noise provisions; officials said follow-up on enforcement and mitigation will be conducted by staff and reported back to the Board.
