Resident alleges repeated spitting incidents by township board appointee; council members react

At the public‑comment portion of the April 7 meeting, resident Nina Choknowitz described multiple incidents she said involved a person appointed to a township board. Choknowitz told the council that the individual had “unprovokedly spit on my son” in the council chambers when he was 15 and later spat on another person in the back of the room; she said police reports were filed for both incidents and that she has seen other instances of abusive behavior.

“By the way, police reports were made on both of these situations,” Choknowitz said, urging the council to take action and asking when the township would remove the appointee from the board.

Several council members addressed the allegations during council comment. Councilman Rosoli said he had reviewed body‑worn camera footage and said the conduct was “unbecoming” of a board representative, adding he believes the person should resign from the zoning board. Another council member criticized misleading information in public discourse and called for higher standards of accuracy in how incidents are reported to the community.

Township officials did not announce any formal disciplinary action at the meeting. The resident called on the council to act immediately; a council member urged that complaints be handled through appropriate channels and noted that some claims require review of evidence and context.
