Council approves Sunrise Meadows final plat and temporary VFW lease for senior-center relocation

Uniontown — At its May 11 meeting the City Council approved the Sunrise Meadows final plat (Resolution 18-75) and a lease amendment with VFW Post 1949 (Resolution 18-78) to accommodate senior-center programming during renovation.
Sunrise Meadows final plat: City staff (Chris Bass) presented the final plat for Sunrise Meadows, a 28-lot subdivision. Bass said the applicant (Sunrise Meadows LLC and JMP 2 Properties LLC) met the conditions of preliminary approval under ordinance 27 88, necessary infrastructure had been installed and accepted by the city engineer, and required performance and maintenance bonds were posted. Staff recommended the council find the final plat consistent with the earlier findings and approve Resolution 18-75; the council approved the resolution on a voice vote.
VFW lease amendment: Parks Director Alina Hibbs explained the second amendment to the city’s lease with VFW Post 1949 would provide temporary exclusive occupancy for senior-center programming from June 1 through Sept. 30, 2026 (with two preexisting rentals excepted). Hibbs said the city will compensate the VFW $6,800 and that the cost will be absorbed into the senior-center project budget, adding small accessibility improvements to the VFW Hall also will be paid from that budget. Council voted to approve Resolution 18-78.
Why it mattered: The final plat approval clears the way for 28 residential lots to be recorded and for required bonds and infrastructure acceptance to be finalized. The lease amendment ensures continuity of senior-center services and accessibility during construction without requiring additional city budget authority for the payment to the VFW, according to the parks director.
Next steps: For the plat, recordation and any required ministerial filings will follow. For the senior-center relocation, parks staff will coordinate the temporary occupancy and the small ADA/accessibility improvements at the VFW Hall.
