Bristol officials defend snow response, warn cars blocking plows will be towed

Council members used the Feb. 2 work session to explain the borough’s response to a recent blizzard and to urge public cooperation.
"Any cars that are blocking the snow plows from plowing will be towed," Council President (speaker 1) said, describing two alleys where crews could not clear snow because vehicles blocked access. He said the towing rule is intended to ensure emergency vehicles can reach homes.
AJ (speaker 6) asked neighbors to help clear buried hydrants and warned that ice on the canal and river is not stable. "Do not go on the ice," AJ said, noting rescue crews have responded to people on the ice during the storm.
Council members described stretched public‑works operations, long staff shifts and high equipment mileage during the event. They said crews had opened main roads first and were working to clear side streets, and that community donations of coffee and food helped crews on long shifts.
The president also discussed a regional salt shortage, saying some salt shipments were unavailable because of ships stuck in ice and that PennDOT has taken available salt supplies. He reminded residents salt is ineffective at very low temperatures and encouraged patience as crews work to clear mounds and reopen streets.
Council members asked residents to show appreciation for public‑works staff and avoid parking where shoveling has created temporary spaces; the borough will consider towing vehicles that impede snow‑clearing or emergency access.
