Bristol council introduces Brian Morris as part‑time recreation director

At its Feb. 2 work session the Bristol Borough Council introduced Brian Morris to serve as a part‑time recreation director for the borough, council members said.

"This is, in my opinion, a sign of progress that has been made in this borough," said Greg (speaker 2), who led the effort to recruit a professional to help rebuild the recreation program and act as a liaison to the school district and the borough’s rec board. He said the new hire would be on site one day a week, primarily Fridays, to support youth sports and senior programs.

Brian Morris, whom the council said currently serves as assistant director of recreation in East Norriton, told the council he has experience growing programs, running community events and developing senior services. "I look forward to getting started," Morris said, noting prior experience with youth tournaments, summer camps and a senior bingo program that grew substantially during his tenure.

Council members emphasized the role is intended to support—rather than replace—existing volunteer coaches and organizers. The borough described the arrangement as hourly pay with no formal contract discussed at the meeting; the hourly rate and final contract terms were not specified at the session.

Greg and other council members said they will work through onboarding logistics, arrange a workspace for Morris on Fridays and coordinate him with volunteer leaders and school‑district staff. "We'll be in touch next week after we make it official," one council member said.

The hire follows council initiatives to expand parks and recreation activities, upgrade facilities and increase senior programming. The council framed the part‑time role as a cost‑conscious way to professionalize services while keeping most operations volunteer‑led.
