Upson County honors recreation track club after growth and state qualifiers

Upson County commissioners on May 26 formally recognized the county recreation department’s track club and its athletes, who posted season and state-level successes.
Assistant Recreation Director Kimberly Rains told the board the program grew from 38 registered athletes in 2025 to 54 this year. “This year in 2026, we grew to 54 registered participants, and that growth alone says a lot about the hard work being put into this program,” Rains said. She named athletes who placed at state competition and singled out Brooklyn Traylor as a two-time state champion in the 6‑to‑8 girls 100‑ and 200‑meter dashes.
Rains also listed relay teams and individual performers who set personal records at state competition and thanked volunteer coaches and staff for their work. The board applauded the athletes and staff and posed for photographs. Rains said the recreation department plans an end‑of‑season banquet later this week, weather permitting.
The recognition was ceremonial; no action items or votes were attached. The presentation highlighted local youth sports growth and community volunteer support as organizers prepare for next season.
